District level Coordination Meeting

 

A district level coordination meeting of CTIP program was accomplished in Dhulikhel, Kavrepanchowk on 17 August 2012. The program was jointly organized by PPR Nepal and District Committee for Combating Human Trafficking (DCCHT), Kavrepalanchowk. Mr. Baalananda Poudel, Secretary of Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare and also the chairperson of NCCHT was the chief guest of the program. The program participated by 38 individuals including local development officer; women development officer; Police personnel of Kavre district; TAF representative; representatives for District Bar, Kave; Federation of Journalist; members of DCCHT; NGO representatives and was chaired by Mr. Rudra Prasad Basyal, Chief District Officer of Kavre and also the Chairperson of DCCHT.

In the program, a paper was presented on “National Plan of Action 2068, SOP 2068, National Minimum Standard 2068 and Role of Stakeholders” by Dr. Kiran Rupakhetee, Under-Secretary of Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare and secretariat of National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking (NCCHT). Dr. Rupakheti explained the features of SOP and NMS and the assistance provided by NPA to those who are working in this field. He highlighted the need of coordination among district level stakeholders and district and centre level.

Mr. Balananda Poudel, Secretary of MoWCSW and Chairperson of NCCHT termed human trafficking, a form of modern day slavery, a black mark in our forehead. He said that the Ministry is strengthening the NCCHT to address the problem. He emphasized the role of National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking (DCCHT) to combat human trafficking in district level and said ”DCCHT has pivotal role to play in district level to coordinate the activities of Government Offices and NGOs working jointly in this issue could bring about positive changes and added advantage to fight against human trafficking. Ms. Nandita Baruwa, CoP of CTIP Project highlighted the need of strengthening the office of Women and Children Office to address the problem of human trafficking in the district. Mr. Rudra Nath Basyal CDO of Kavre reiterated his commitment to fight against human trafficking from his level in the district. The participants of the program criticized delayed response of police administration in controlling human trafficking especially kidney trafficking and strongly demanded to arrest and take action against the traffickers. The program concluded with a request from NCCHT to celebrate ‘National Day for Combating Human Trafficking-2069′ with a slogan “Let us raise our voice, let us make our society free from Human Trafficking”.
