Orientation to district level Political party members, journalist and human rights defenders on TIP


In Bajrabarahi of Makwanpur district a one day orientation on TIP was conducted for political party members, journalists and human rights defenders. A total of 21 individuals participated the orientation. Mr. Satish Kumar Sharma, program director of PPR Nepal presented a paper discussing concept of human trafficking, world-wide phenomenon of human trafficking and also presented facts and figures of human trafficking across the world. The presentation also discussed on the Nepali legal provision on victim and witness protection. Likewise, advocate Mr. Mukunda Prasad Adhikari presented a paper that discussed about legal provisions on victim and witness protection. Another paper on role of journalists, political party members and human rights defenders was presented by Mr. Suraj Kumar Bhujel a journalist. The participants of the orientation expressed that due to lack of victim friendly laws people fail to enjoy justice, social stigma also force the public not to report cases if girls/women disappeared (trafficked) and lack of safety and security discourage victims/survivors and witnesses to report cases and present during victim and witness testimony.
