Rally, Interaction and Report Launching Program marking the “International Day in Support of Victims of Torture

 

Marking the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture a rally followed by an interaction program was conducted on 26 June 2014. In the interaction program, 60 participants from different human rights organizations, senior human rights activists, youths and survivors/victims of torture participated. Colorful and eye catching placards with slogans and awareness raising messages were displayed. PPR Nepal and Yuba for change- an organization of youths jointly organized the rally.

A report entitled "Situation of Access to Justice of Victims of Torture in Nepal" was launched in the program by Mrs. Jungmu Sherpa, wife of Mr. Ang Dorji Sherpa, a torture survivor whose torture case/communication has been filed in the UN Human Rights Committee (in 2012). The report was prepared and published by PPR Nepal based on the study conducted by PPR Nepal. The report basically covers the situation of torture practices and situation of access to justice of the victims of torture in Nepal.

Through this program messages to end impunity, voice against torture and to end torture were disseminated. Torture survivors also get a forum to express their sufferings and solidarity to fight against the cruel, inhuman and degrading behavior.
